A tragic incident unfolded in Prosper, Texas, on January 10, 2025, when Lucy Harrison, a 23-year-old woman from Warrington, Cheshire, was fatally shot by her father, Kris Harrison, during a visit to his home. The circumstances leading to her death emerged at an inquest held at Cheshire Coroner’s Court, revealing that a heated dispute over US politics, specifically regarding then-president Donald Trump, occurred earlier that day.
Lucy’s boyfriend, Sam Littler, who had accompanied her on the holiday, recounted to the inquest how the argument escalated, focusing partly on Kris Harrison’s gun ownership. Littler described how Lucy became distressed during the discussion, especially when her father made remarks suggesting that the experience of sexual assault would not deeply impact him, citing that he had two other daughters living with him. This confrontation left Lucy upset, prompting her to retreat upstairs to compose herself.
The fatal shooting occurred shortly before Lucy and Sam were scheduled to leave for the airport. According to Littler’s testimony, Kris Harrison led Lucy into his ground-floor bedroom to show her a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun he kept in a bedside cabinet. Moments after Kris lifted the firearm to show her, a loud bang was heard. Kris then called out for his wife in distress. Lucy was found lying on the floor near the bathroom entrance, having been struck by a bullet to the chest. Kris Harrison later admitted to drinking around 500ml of white wine that day, acknowledging a brief relapse of his earlier struggles with alcohol addiction.
Kris Harrison did not attend the inquest but submitted a statement in which he expressed his shock and disbelief at what had happened, admitting he did not remember if his finger was on the trigger at the time of the shooting. Police who responded to the scene noted the smell of alcohol on his breath, and CCTV footage confirmed his purchase of alcohol earlier that day. Despite initial manslaughter investigations, a grand jury in Collin County decided not to indict him. The inquest also saw a request by Kris Harrison’s legal representative for the presiding coroner to step aside over alleged bias, which was subsequently denied. In closing remarks, Kris Harrison stated he “fully accepted” the consequences of his actions and conveyed the profound sense of loss he continues to bear. Lucy’s mother remembered her daughter as a passionate and caring individual, describing her as a “real force of life.” The inquest paused and is set to resume with the coroner’s conclusions expected soon
