A well-known French bakery brand, Brioche Pasquier, has recalled certain packs of its chocolate and hazelnut-filled brioches due to concerns that they might present a choking risk. This recall affects products distributed by several major UK retailers, including Asda, Tesco, and Ocado.
The exact reason why pieces of plastic have been found inside these brioches is currently unknown. The BBC has reached out to Brioche Pasquier for clarification on this matter. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has emphasized that the presence of plastic fragments not only makes the product unsafe to eat but also could potentially cause harm to the digestive system if swallowed.
The recall is limited specifically to the Pitch Chocolate filled 225g packs (6 x 37.5g) bearing the batch code UK 034. Consumers who have purchased these particular packs are urged not to consume them and to contact Brioche Pasquier’s customer care through their website or by emailing technical@briochepasquier.com. Information about the batch code and expiry date is printed on the back of the product packaging.
Brioche Pasquier has confirmed that no other batch codes or any other products in their range are affected by this recall. Food recalls occur when there is a plausible safety risk to consumers. Most recently, on Friday, Danone initiated a recall of certain batches of its Aptamil and Cow & Gate baby formula products after discovering a toxin that rendered the formula unsafe for infants
