Persistent unsettled weather, driven by Storms Goretti, Ingrid, and Chandra, has resulted in significant rainfall and ongoing challenges for many areas.

In Northern Ireland, January’s rainfall reached a historic high, marking the wettest January in 149 years. The region received 195.6mm of precipitation, which is 170% of the typical amount for the month. Similarly, parts of south-west England and south Wales have experienced exceptionally prolonged wet periods, with rain falling for an unbroken stretch of 36 days.

In northeast Scotland, Aboyne in Aberdeenshire has already surpassed its usual February rainfall totals, despite the month being less than a week old. This early record further emphasizes the extent of the wet weather affecting the country. Unfortunately, forecasts suggest that the rain will continue to impact many areas in the near future.
