Julia Donaldson, the acclaimed children’s author, has announced the title of her eagerly awaited new addition to the Gruffalo series during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. The forthcoming book, named *Gruffalo Granny*, marks the third installment featuring the beloved fictional creature and his companions.
Scheduled for release as both a hardback and an audiobook on 10 September, *Gruffalo Granny* brings a fresh chapter to the well-known tale. Donaldson shared that the concept has been with her for nearly twenty years but was delayed due to her focus on other writing projects. She also mentioned a personal connection to the story, saying, “And now of course I’m a granny myself, so maybe that’s what spurred me on.”
Axel Scheffler, who has illustrated the series since its inception, expressed surprise at the new book’s development. Having firmly believed there would be no sequel for over two decades, Scheffler humorously remarked, “I’ve been saying for more than 20 years there won’t be a sequel, and it’s taught me to never say never.”
This latest announcement has excited fans of the series, who can look forward to further adventures with the Gruffalo family when the new title becomes available later this year
