Police name De Montfort University student fatally stabbed near campus

Leicestershire Police have identified the student who tragically died after being stabbed near a university campus. The victim, an 18-year-old man named Khaleed Oladipo, was in his second year studying cyber-security at De Montfort University (DMU). Oladipo, originally from London, succumbed to a stab wound to the chest, according to a post-mortem examination.

Police confirmed that an 18-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody while a thorough investigation continues. In response to the incident, several nearby roads, including Oxford Street, Infirmary Road, and others in the surrounding area, were closed to the public to facilitate police inquiries.

Khaleed Oladipo’s family shared a heartfelt tribute, describing him as “a good boy who loved his family” and expressing their profound sorrow at his loss. They also expressed gratitude to the members of the public who tried to assist Khaleed, as well as the ambulance and hospital staff who provided medical care in an attempt to save him. They emphasized their appreciation for the police’s ongoing efforts, stating, “We are struggling to understand why anyone would do this” but remain committed to ensuring justice is served.

The family also revealed that one of Khaleed’s greatest passions was football, and he was a devoted Arsenal supporter. They believe he was heading home to watch a football match on the evening of the attack. The university’s vice-chancellor, Prof Katie Normington, conveyed her devastation over Khaleed’s death and confirmed that support is being made available to students, staff, and the bereaved family during this difficult time. “Our thoughts are with everyone who is affected by what has happened,” she said
