The officer, Aiden Love, who was 34 at the time, initiated contact with the girl through social media in March of the previous year. During their communication, he misrepresented himself as a 14-year-old boy from Inverness.

According to proceedings at Wick Sheriff Court, Love repeatedly requested explicit photographs from the girl, even after being informed that she was only 12 or 13 years old. At the time of the offense, Love was living in Halkirk and employed at the Dounreay nuclear facility. Following the criminal proceedings, he received a community payback order lasting three years and was placed on the sex offenders register. Love, who has since resigned from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, admitted in court to making indecent sexual communications and causing the girl to view sexual images.

The Constabulary conducted a misconduct hearing last month, during which the panel described the case as “shocking” and acknowledged that the public would be “rightly appalled” by the behavior. This incident has brought significant scrutiny to the standards expected of officers serving in such sensitive roles
