Liverpool City Council is set to begin a series of improvements on Speke Hall Road later this month, focusing on enhancing several important transport routes throughout the city. The council has contracted Aureos Highways to undertake the project, with work planned to commence on Monday, 16 February. The duration of the improvements is expected to be around 26 weeks.
This initiative is part of the broader Liverpool City Region’s Key Route Network Levelling Up Programme. The programme’s goal is to boost the reliability and resilience of vital roads in the city region, aligned with the council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and upgrading the highway infrastructure for all road users.
Initially, the project will involve conducting surveys and investigations, which will necessitate lane closures and the installation of temporary traffic lights. Due to this, drivers should anticipate potential delays and allow extra travel time. In the subsequent phases, the work will include resurfacing parts of the road, upgrading drainage systems, improving traffic signals and street lighting at major junctions, and enhancing pavements and pedestrian crossings to increase safety and accessibility.
Liverpool City Council plans to engage residents and local businesses throughout the process. To facilitate this, there will be drop-in sessions where individuals can learn more about the improvements, discuss their concerns, and ask questions. Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, highlighted the importance of the investment, stating, “This investment in Speke Hall Road is an important step in improving safety, accessibility and journey reliability for everyone who uses this key route. By upgrading crossings, pavements and signals, we’re creating a safer environment for pedestrians while also tackling congestion and improving traffic flow. We know roadworks can be disruptive, and we appreciate people’s patience while this essential work takes place.”
