Abersoch beach huts worth £250k get buried in sand after storm

Several of the priciest beach huts in Wales have recently been buried under sand following storms that battered the coastline. Located on Abersoch beach in Gwynedd, these huts, which can fetch prices as high as £250,000, require excavation every spring. However, local residents have remarked that this year’s sand coverage is particularly severe compared to previous seasons.

A video showing the sand-covered huts was posted on social media by Abersoch.com, sparking various reactions. One viewer humorously suggested that nature was providing “extra security for the over priced sheds,” while others commented that it was “the worst I’ve seen in a long while” and acknowledged, “it does look bad this year.” This current challenge is not unprecedented, as the huts have endured damage from natural forces before.

In fact, back in November 2025, the seafront experienced another blow when Storm Claudia struck the area. The beach huts themselves, along with the strip of land immediately in front of them, are privately owned. This means that local authorities, specifically Cyngor Gwynedd, do not take part in or hold responsibility for clearing the sand from around the huts.

These huts measure approximately 8 meters by 3 meters (26 feet by 10 feet) and are relatively simple structures. They lack connections to mains water, and overnight stays within them are not allowed. Despite their size and restrictions, owners must still pay council tax on these properties, which is estimated to be close to £800 for the current year
