Sarah Ferguson’s charitable organization, Sarah’s Trust, has declared it will cease operations “for the foreseeable future,” shortly after new information surfaced regarding her association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. A spokesperson for the charity stated that the decision was reached following “some months” of internal deliberation.
Recent disclosures from over three million documents released by the US Department of Justice included emails that appear to show Ferguson maintained communication with Epstein while he was imprisoned for soliciting sex from a minor. The BBC has sought comment from Ferguson concerning these recent revelations. It is important to note that being named in the Epstein files does not imply any wrongdoing.
Founded in 2020, Sarah’s Trust aimed to support grassroots initiatives addressing humanitarian, environmental, and hunger crises, as well as tackling the factors driving extreme poverty. The charity’s spokesman said on Monday evening, “Our chair Sarah Ferguson and the board of trustees have agreed that with regret the charity will shortly close for the foreseeable future,” adding that this has been under consideration for several months. No additional explanation was provided regarding the closure.
Ferguson’s previous links to Epstein have already led to consequences; last year, several charities severed ties with her. Julia’s House, a children’s hospice, was the first to remove her due to concerns over the appropriateness of her role. Similarly, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, Children’s Literacy Charity, National Foundation for Retired Service Animals, and Prevent Breast Cancer also ended her patronage. The British Heart Foundation announced she would no longer serve as its ambassador. Efforts to obtain comment from Ferguson’s office have been made, with her representatives consistently denying any wrongdoing. Among the released correspondence is an email in which Ferguson appears to congratulate Epstein on the birth of a “baby boy.” Further emails from June 2009 show Ferguson reaching out to Epstein about establishing a commercial entity called The Mothers Army, seeking his guidance and later mentioning a positive response from the “first lady.”
