A pregnant woman was struck by an electric bike near the junction of Herbert Avenue and Manor Road in Poole on January 26. The impact led to her giving birth prematurely, and her baby is now in a critical condition in hospital. Although the woman, who is in her 30s, sustained injuries that were not classified as serious, the severity of the baby’s health remains a grave concern.
Following the incident, Dorset Police reported that the e-bike rider and a passenger fled the scene. However, authorities have since arrested a 13-year-old boy from Poole on suspicion of a driving offence. The young suspect is currently being held in police custody as the investigation continues.
Sgt Dan Yates expressed gratitude to members of the public who have come forward to assist with the case. He emphasized the importance of community support by urging anyone with further information about the incident, who has not yet been in contact with the police, to reach out.
