Missing girl Inaayah Makda's parents describe 'unbearable fear'

The family of Inaayah Makda, a seven-year-old British girl who went missing after being swept out to sea during a holiday in Morocco, have described their lives as “forever changed.” Since the incident at a Casablanca beach last Wednesday, every moment has been filled with “unbearable pain, fear and hope,” according to her parents, Tasneem and Zubair Makda.

Inaayah had been sitting with her parents on some rocks when a large wave struck, pulling all three into the water. Though the parents also fell in, they lost sight of Inaayah in the turbulent sea. They remain hopeful that she might have reached safety somewhere along the coast. However, their efforts to locate her have been challenged by “severe weather and rough seas,” which have hindered the search in recent days.

In a public statement, Tasneem and Zubair expressed deep frustration over the lack of meaningful assistance from UK authorities. While they acknowledge being told the case is being monitored, they say this has not led to concrete support. Instead, they have had to depend greatly on local volunteers and private initiatives to continue the search. “It should not fall solely on a grieving family to navigate complex international systems during a crisis,” they said.

A spokesperson from the UK Foreign Office confirmed that they are supporting the family and maintaining communication with Moroccan officials. Meanwhile, the Makda family described Inaayah as a “bright, loving and gentle little girl” and hold onto the hope that she is safe. They also expressed their wish that if the worst has occurred, they could bring her home with dignity and find closure. Public support has been strong, with a fundraising effort raising more than £60,000 to assist in search expenses. Blackburn MP Adnan Hussain has stated that the Moroccan ambassador has provided “strong assurances” that local authorities will exhaust every effort to find Inaayah. The family continues to urgently appeal for any additional help to locate their daughter, emphasizing that she “deserves every possible chance to be found.
