Police are currently seeking information following an assault on three council workers in Belfast that took place on Saturday. The incident occurred around 00:40 GMT in the Little Donegall Street area of the city.
According to police reports, the workers were assaulted by two unidentified men while they were performing their duties. Inspector Knowles explained that one of the suspects approached the workers and initially subjected them to verbal abuse before escalating to physical violence.
Describing the suspects, police noted that one is believed to be a slim male with blond hair, wearing a grey tracksuit. This individual was later joined by a second unknown male who also took part in the assault. The victims suffered punches to the face and neck, with one sustaining an additional injury to his hand. All three council workers required hospital treatment following the attack.
Sinn Féin councillor Ronan McLaughlin condemned the assault, calling it a “shocking assault” on individuals “simply carrying out their jobs on behalf of the people of our city.” He also expressed his solidarity with the victims, stating, “I condemn those involved and want to express my thoughts and solidarity with those injured.
