A 12-year-old boy, Vivaan Sharma, has recounted his experience with limb reconstruction surgeon Yaser Jabbar, whom he saw when he was just six years old. Vivaan reflected on the lasting impact of the treatment, stating, “We saw some mistakes on my leg and we realised something happened wrong.”
An investigation conducted by Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in London has revealed extensive evidence of unacceptable practices involved in the surgeries performed by Jabbar. According to the report, Jabbar was employed at the hospital from 2017 to 2022, during which time he treated 789 children. Out of these cases, 94 patients were found to have been harmed as a result of his care.
Vivaan described the ongoing consequences of the surgeries, sharing, “We had to have even more surgeries and more surgeries… this is stuck for life, I’ve got so many scars on my leg.” The investigation highlights the significant and lasting physical and emotional toll experienced by those affected.
The findings from this inquiry have raised serious concerns about patient safety and the standards of care at the hospital during the period Jabbar was practicing. The report underscores the need for rigorous oversight and improved safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future
