Ex-Spandau Ballet singer Ross Davidson found guilty of rape

Ross Davidson, also known by his stage name Ross Wild, has been convicted of rape and attempted rape. The 37-year-old performer, noted for his association with the 1980s band Spandau Ballet in 2018 and his involvement in the Queen-themed West End musical “We Will Rock You,” faced serious charges related to incidents involving two women.

Prosecutor Richard Hearnden remarked that although Davidson had been viewed by some as “a bit of a sex symbol,” the victims uncovered “a much darker side that they did not notice, at least at first.”

During the trial, the first victim recounted waking up to find Davidson assaulting her while she was asleep in his London home, leaving her feelings of helplessness and fear. Davidson had told her he was interested in having sex with “a person in a helpless state, someone not moving.” Davidson defended himself by describing his outlook as “sex positive,” referring to an open-minded approach toward people’s sexual preferences and the importance of having honest dialogue. He acknowledged creating the secret video found on his phone “for selfish reasons, for sexual gratification” and expressed remorse, saying he wished he “had never done it.” Davidson’s previous convictions include rape, two counts of sexual assault, and voyeurism, with sentencing for these convictions pending
