While many students travel to school by walking, riding the bus, or getting a lift from their parents, Alfie chooses a more unusual mode of transportation. Instead of any of these common methods, the 11-year-old enjoys commuting on his unicycle.
Alfie first tried riding a unicycle on a whim and quickly developed an interest in learning the skill more thoroughly. To pursue this, he purchased a second-hand unicycle from Facebook. Determined to master riding it, he dedicated time over a weekend to practicing intensively in one-hour sessions.
During this time, Alfie encountered numerous falls but persisted with determination. He practiced moving from point to point, sharing, “I would just try and ride from a tree to a dog poo bin, and got further and further, made it to my grandparents’ house and then I made it to school.”
Through consistent effort and perseverance, Alfie eventually gained the confidence and ability to ride his unicycle all the way to school, demonstrating skill and dedication rarely seen at such a young age
