French authorities have prohibited ten British individuals, described as “far-right activists,” from entering the country due to their involvement in efforts to prevent migrants from crossing the English Channel in small vessels. These individuals were reportedly members of a group named Raise the Colours, which engaged in activities along France’s northern coastline, including searching for and destroying small boats intended for migrant crossings. The French interior ministry also accused the group of conducting propaganda operations related to their actions.
Although the ministry has not disclosed the identities of those banned, the UK Foreign Office was contacted for comment by media outlets. Raise the Colours responded by reaffirming their commitment to peaceful and lawful conduct. In a statement, the group emphasized that it “does not support violence or any unlawful activity,” underscoring their stated principles. The ministry explained that it had been monitoring the group’s activities since December 2025, which it considered likely to cause serious public disorder.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez commented on the situation via a post on the social media platform X, asserting that France’s legal framework is firm and that violent acts or incitement of hatred would not be tolerated within the country. The group itself acknowledged that it had not yet received an official notification about the ban but believed it targeted specific members rather than banning the organization entirely. Raise the Colours described their mission as a “grassroots movement for unity and patriotism,” involved mainly in UK flag-raising campaigns and documenting situations surrounding unauthorized Channel crossings.
Data from the UK Home Office shows that 41,472 migrants crossed the English Channel in 2025, marking a 13% increase from the previous year and representing the highest total since 2022, when nearly 46,000 crossings were recorded. Early in 2026, between January 1st and 5th, 32 individuals made the journey by small boat. Since 2024, Raise the Colours has shared video footage of its activities in northern France via social media. Notably, small boat crossings have become the predominant method for migrants entering the UK illegally since 2020.
