Man admits causing Staffordshire golf course crash death

A man has confessed to causing the death of a woman who was struck by a van on a golf course. Suzanne Cherry, aged 62, passed away in April after being hit at Aston Wood Golf Club in Staffordshire. The accident involved a grey Nissan van that had been part of a police chase. Suzanne died in hospital four days after the collision.

The individual who admitted to causing death by dangerous driving is John McDonald, 51, from Booth Street in Bloxwich, West Midlands. He is due to be sentenced at Worcester Crown Court later today. In addition, John McDonald, alongside co-defendants Johnny McDonald, 23, from Molyneux Road in Dudley, and Brett Delaney, 35, from Michael Road in Darlaston, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud. This scheme took place between February 17 and April 12 of the previous year and involved making false claims about roofing work that was not needed.

Earlier, all three men had denied charges of manslaughter. Suzanne Cherry, a resident of Aldridge, was described by her husband as someone enjoying what should have been her safest pastime. He spoke about his “beautiful wife” who possessed an “amazing and infectious zest for life,” a future with her that was suddenly taken away. The tragic incident left a deep impact on those who knew her.

Following the incident, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) launched a probe into the events surrounding the fatal crash and police involvement. According to the watchdog, two patrol cars began following the Nissan van in Kingstanding, Birmingham, after reports of suspicious behavior. The pursuit ended when the van left the road and climbed an embankment at Aston Wood Golf Club, where it struck Suzanne Cherry
