Gabby Logan has paid a heartfelt tribute to her father, Terry Yorath, remembering him as a warm and generous individual with a sharp sense of humor. The Welsh football icon, who had a celebrated career as both a player and manager, passed away at the age of 75 following a brief illness.
Yorath, born in Cardiff, had a distinguished career in football, notably serving as captain and manager for Wales. He also holds the milestone of being the first Welsh player to participate in a European Cup final back in 1975, during his time with Leeds United. Sharing her remembrance on Instagram, Logan posted several family photographs alongside her touching words of tribute.
During a recent broadcast of Match of the Day, Logan had to leave the program unexpectedly due to a family emergency, with her co-host Mark Chapman stepping in to continue the show. She later expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and kind messages she received. Reflecting on her father, she described him as “a warrior on the football pitch” and “a kind-hearted and generous man off it.” She also mentioned spending time with him in the hospital the day before his passing, discussing some of their favorite meals.
Logan acknowledged the profound impact of the tragic Valley Parade fire of 1985 on her father’s life. At the time, Yorath was a player-coach for Bradford and was present when the disaster claimed 56 lives and injured over 250 people. She said this event shaped the latter part of his life dramatically. Numerous figures from the world of football and media, including Alan Shearer, Alex Scott, Rio Ferdinand, Claudia Winkleman, and Davina McCall, have expressed their condolences following her tribute.
