In Greater Manchester, an incident involving three schoolchildren falling through a window from the upper deck of a bus has prompted a significant emergency response. The event took place on Bolton Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield around 16:00 GMT, where police and emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. Although the children sustained “potentially serious injuries,” Greater Manchester Police confirmed that their conditions are not believed to be life-threatening.
Inspector Simon Barrie described the situation as “an unfortunate accident” and emphasized the seriousness of the incident, acknowledging the disruption it caused. He stated, “Our priority is to make sure the children get the treatment they need in hospital. Thankfully we don’t believe their injuries are life-threatening.” The investigation into how the accident occurred is still in its early stages.
Councillor Danny Fletcher, representing Ashton-on-Makerfield South ward, addressed the community on Facebook, expressing concern for those affected. He revealed that some of the children may face injuries with potentially life-altering consequences. Fletcher explained, “As we know, three young people have fallen from a top floor side window of a school bus and have been taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital, some with potentially life changing injuries.”
Further, the councillor shared that he had been in contact with the schools involved to ensure appropriate support is in place. He extended his thoughts and support to the children and their families, stating, “Sending my thoughts and all my love to the kids and families involved.” Authorities have since reopened the road following the incident
