Belfast: Suspected gas explosion on Lower Braniel Road

Authorities have reported a suspected gas explosion at a residence in east Belfast. Emergency responders are currently attending the scene located on Lower Braniel Road. The incident has drawn the attention of firefighters, ambulance crews, and police officers who are all actively involved in managing the situation.

According to a spokesperson from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS), the call about the explosion at a mid-terraced house was received shortly before 12:30 GMT. In response, multiple fire units were dispatched to the location to handle the emergency.

Specifically, two fire engines from Knock Fire Station, along with a hazardous materials (hazmat) pump from Whitla Fire Station, were sent to assist. Their presence underscores the potential risk factors associated with gas explosions, requiring specialized equipment and expertise.

As a precaution, Lower Braniel Road has been closed in both directions to ensure public safety. Traffic has been redirected with appropriate diversions in place while the emergency services continue their work at the scene
