US fans fly in to see Derby County striker Patrick Agyemang

A family from the United States, devoted supporters of football, recently had the chance to reconnect with one of their favorite players after his transfer away from their hometown team to Derby County. The Pendry family, who follow Charlotte FC based in North Carolina, traveled to Pride Park Stadium to watch the Rams’ New Year’s Day victory over Middlesbrough. Before the match kicked off, they were given the special privilege of meeting US striker Patrick Agyemang pitch-side.

Agyemang, who has represented his country at the international level, joined Derby County from the MLS club for a transfer fee of £5.8 million in July 2025. Since his arrival, he has quickly become popular with the fans, netting six goals in 21 appearances. Reflecting on the family’s visit, Ben Pendry expressed his excitement to BBC Radio Derby, saying: “We had the opportunity to come and see Patrick play and it’s been a great family trip to come and see Derby.”

The Pendrys have been enthusiastic followers of Agyemang during his MLS career, where he scored 17 goals in 59 matches for Charlotte FC. Ben also shared how his son Branch would eagerly follow Derby County’s results, waking early to check on Agyemang’s performance and running downstairs to celebrate whenever the player scored. Although the striker started the match against Middlesbrough, he was unable to add to his goal tally on this occasion.

After meeting his American fans, Agyemang expressed his delight: “It’s amazing, I obviously love their support and to see them come over is crazy, so I’m happy that they’re here.” The connection between the US family and the Derby County striker highlights the growing international ties within the world of football
