Corriedale: Coronation Street and Emmerdale collide in crossover episode to launch scaled-back schedule

The iconic worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale will merge for the very first time in a dramatic crossover episode titled *Corriedale*, airing this Monday. This special event launches a refreshed but slightly reduced broadcast schedule for both long-running ITV soaps. Executive producer Iain Macleod describes the crossover as “like the Marvel multiverse assembling,” highlighting the excitement of bringing two beloved soap universes together.

Macleod, who assumed control of both shows two years ago, initially toyed with the idea of minor crossovers, such as a character visiting the neighboring soap’s setting. However, he quickly decided to go all out with an ambitious stunt: a collision between characters from both series set on a dark, wintry road somewhere between Coronation Street’s Manchester and Emmerdale’s West Yorkshire. Using that real-life chaos as creative fodder, he transformed his challenging commute into an inventive storyline that would unite the two soap worlds.

For the actors, filming *Corriedale* was also a unique opportunity to connect with their colleagues from the other soap, according to Emmerdale’s Joe-Warren Plant. He recalled the intense three weeks of night shoots and the camaraderie that developed off-set as they waited for complex scenes involving explosions. Although there was some “competitive rivalry,” it faded quickly once filming started
