Man charged with murder after dad died following pub assault

A man has been formally charged with murder following the death of David Darke, a 66-year-old who sustained a serious head injury after an assault outside a pub in Leicestershire. The incident took place at around 9:45 pm on December 21st, outside The Crown Inn on Church Street in Appleby Magna. David Darke was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he later passed away on Saturday.

Nathan Gothard, aged 36 and a resident of Church Street, Appleby Magna, appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court, where he was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to make a court appearance at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday.

In a heartfelt statement, Mr. Darke’s family expressed the profound loss they are experiencing. They described his life as being “tragically cut short” and emphasized how deeply he will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. The family highlighted David’s role as a devoted father to three daughters and a proud grandfather to three grandsons.
