Diogo Jota's wife thanks Liverpool fans for the 'love'

The family of footballer Diogo Jota has expressed gratitude towards Liverpool supporters for their overwhelming affection during an exceptionally tough period following the player’s tragic death in a car accident. Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso, conveyed her thanks through an Instagram post after two of their three children paid tribute to their late father before Liverpool’s match against Wolves.

Jota’s sons, Dinis and Duarte, participated as matchday mascots, leading the team onto the Anfield pitch ahead of the Premier League fixture. This was a poignant moment, given Jota’s history as a player for both Liverpool and Wolves. In her Instagram message, Rute Cardoso wrote: “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the club and to all the fans for the love, respect and support shown during this incredibly difficult time. Your messages and gestures have meant more than words can express.” The heartfelt tribute from the family was matched by the scene at Anfield, where a banner proclaiming “Diogo Jota, forever in our hearts” was displayed in the Kop stand before kickoff. Additionally, Jota’s sons walked out ahead of Liverpool’s captain, Virgil van Dijk, underscoring the close connection the family has with the club.
