King Charles III will deliver his Christmas message this year from Westminster Abbey, continuing a tradition that blends history and reflection. The speech will be recorded within the Lady Chapel of this iconic medieval church situated in central London. This follows recent positive news about the King’s response to cancer treatment earlier in the month.
In his address, scheduled for broadcast at 3:00 pm on Christmas Day, the King is anticipated to reflect on the “pilgrimage” of life, drawing lessons applicable to contemporary challenges. Last year, his message came from the Fitzrovia Chapel, a space historically linked to hospital workers, which underscored his gratitude toward health professionals.
The Lady Chapel setting is notable for its medieval vaulted ceiling and for being the final resting place of 15 previous monarchs, including Elizabeth I, Mary I, and Charles II. This marks the second consecutive year that the broadcast will not be made from the confines of a palace desk. During the message, the King will stand before Christmas trees that were earlier used to decorate the Abbey for the Princess of Wales’s carol concert this December.
Westminster Abbey has also recently hosted other royal events linked to the King’s interfaith efforts.
