Timothée Chalamet has put an end to the swirling rumors suggesting he is the elusive masked rapper EsDeeKid by appearing alongside him in a new music video. The Oscar-nominated actor, known for keeping a relatively low profile outside of his film work, had been the subject of intense speculation due to perceived similarities, particularly around the rapper’s distinctive eyes. For some time, fans have wondered if Chalamet was secretly leading a double life as EsDeeKid, a drill artist who conceals his identity behind a bandana.
Earlier this week, when the BBC pressed Chalamet about his alleged connection to EsDeeKid, he offered only a cryptic reply: “No comment… You’ll see, all in due time.” However, the mystery was effectively dispelled when Chalamet, who dabbled in hip-hop under the nickname Lil Timmy Tim during his high school years, shared a video showing him rapping side-by-side with EsDeeKid. The track they performed together was a remix of EsDeeKid’s charting single, “4Raws,” which recently entered the UK top 10.
In the video, Chalamet cleverly plays with the rumors by initially showing just his eyes, mimicking EsDeeKid’s signature look, before revealing his full face and delivering lyrics that directly address the speculation. Among the lines he rapped were “It’s Timothée Chalamet chillin’, tryin’ to stack $100 million,” as well as a nod to his partner, Kylie Jenner, with the verse, “Girl got $1 billion.” The video was shot in north London at Andover Minimarket Off Licence and was subsequently shared by EsDeeKid on social media. Throughout this period, both the rapper and the actor had stayed silent despite the growing buzz, with EsDeeKid gaining chart success and Chalamet focused on promoting his latest film.
The widespread speculation caught the attention of BBC Radio One’s Greg James, who questioned Chalamet about the connection during an interview. The actor maintained his enigmatic stance, saying, “All will be revealed in due time.” James later confirmed on social media that the truth had been unveiled, highlighting the new collaboration in which he gave shout-outs to the film’s title, Marty Supreme. Despite the initial excitement, many found the theory implausible given the differences in accent and style. The video quickly gained traction online, drawing reactions from notable figures such as British rapper Central Cee, who responded humorously, and Tinie Tempah, who called the collaboration “sickkk,” while American artist Shaboozey predicted the track would go to number one
