Police in Clackmannanshire have made an arrest following the death of a man in the Sauchie area. Authorities were alerted just after midnight on Thursday, when emergency services responded to a call on Gartmorn Road. Upon arrival, officers found William Devaney, aged 40, who was declared deceased at the scene. His death is currently being treated as a murder investigation.
A 26-year-old suspect has been apprehended and is scheduled to appear at Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr. Devaney’s death as they gather further evidence and information. The inquiry remains active and ongoing.
Family members of William Devaney have spoken about their loss, describing him as “a really nice person, so joyful, full of life and full of banter.” They also stated, “Everybody loved him and he loved everybody,” and expressed that he “will be sadly missed by all his family and friends and was loved by all.”
Det Insp Steven McLean extended his condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with William’s family and friends at what is an extremely difficult time. We are offering them support as our investigation progresses.” Meanwhile, Chief Inspector Garry Smith, the local area commander, emphasized the rarity of such events in the community, stating, “Incidents like this in our community are shocking but rare. Our officers are continuing to work with colleagues from the Major Investigation Team and we will have an increased police presence in the area for public reassurance.”
