British woman surfs potentially record-breaking monster wave

Laura Crane, a 30-year-old surfer from Devon, may have achieved a historic feat by riding what could be the largest wave ever surfed by a woman. This impressive accomplishment took place during the Nazare Big Wave Challenge held in Portugal on Saturday.

The wave Crane tackled is currently under review by the Big Wave Challenge organization, which collaborates with Guinness World Records to verify such achievements. At present, the world record for the biggest wave surfed by a woman stands at 73.5 feet (22.4 meters) in height.

In an interview with the BBC, Crane expressed her amazement at the size of the wave, stating she had “never seen a wave that big” and described the experience as “a big shock.” Her reaction highlights the extraordinary nature of the wave and the challenge she faced.

The confirmation process by the Big Wave Challenge group will determine whether Crane’s ride officially breaks the existing record, potentially securing her place in surfing history
