Liverpool City Council has marked a significant advancement in its regeneration plans for the North Docks following Cabinet approval of proposals for a Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) on Tuesday, 16 December. This endorsement is a pivotal move that aims to hasten high-quality redevelopment along the city’s northern waterfront. The newly agreed MDC will function under a tailored governance framework designed to foster close cooperation between the Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
The establishment of the MDC is intended to promote sustainable development swiftly while ensuring that projects align with the city’s strategic goals. These initiatives focus on delivering both housing and commercial spaces to support key expanding sectors in Liverpool. Collaborating with the Combined Authority, national bodies, the Council, and private investors, the MDC will be instrumental in driving shared ambitions for growth that place community needs firmly at the centre of the regeneration efforts.
Covering essential sites across the North Docks, the proposed development zone is set to attract new investment, generate employment opportunities, and rejuvenate currently underused areas of land. Crucially, the presence of Everton Football Club’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock gives the MDC a significant head start compared to similar projects elsewhere in the UK.
