Woman released as inquiries continue into fatal A46 Leicestershire crash

A single-vehicle crash on the A46 in Leicestershire resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals. The incident occurred shortly after 01:00 GMT on Saturday when a blue BMW 5 series veered off the road between Thrussington and Sileby. Emergency services responded promptly, and authorities confirmed the vehicle was traveling southbound from Nottingham at the time of the accident.

Following the crash, a 37-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has since been released under investigation while police continue their inquiries. The force also reported that a fourth passenger, who alerted them to the collision, sustained minor injuries.

Detectives from the serious collision investigation unit have been working at the scene to collect evidence in an effort to determine how the car left the dual carriageway. The A46 was temporarily closed in both directions to facilitate this investigation but has now reopened. Detective Constable Madeleine Hayes described the event as a “tragic incident with three people losing their lives” and called on members of the public with any relevant information to come forward.

Det Con Hayes requested that anyone with dashcam footage capturing the area between 00:30 and 01:05 provide the police with this evidence. She emphasized the importance of understanding the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway, stating, “We know the car was travelling on the A46 from Nottingham,” and added that witness contributions could be crucial to the ongoing investigation
