Zoe Ball has announced that she will be stepping down as the presenter of her BBC Radio 2 Saturday afternoon show. During a broadcast, she revealed that Emma Willis will be taking over the role, describing her as a “superwoman.” Ball reassured her listeners that although she is leaving the regular show, she will not be disappearing entirely from the station.
Ball’s final Saturday show is scheduled for 20 December. Following her departure, she plans to continue hosting special programs on BBC Radio 2. Previously, she stepped down from the Radio 2 breakfast show last December after nearly six years, before returning to present the Saturday afternoon slot from 13:00 to 15:00 GMT.
During her last broadcast, Ball expressed how much she enjoyed working alongside her co-hosts Romesh Ranganathan and Rylan Clark, telling listeners, “I love you all to bits, but I’m not disappearing completely.” She also mentioned upcoming special shows, including Christmas-themed programming and an eras show planned for the new year. Ball expressed excitement in welcoming Willis as the new host, noting that she is a familiar face to Radio 2 audiences.
Emma Willis, 49, who is known for presenting popular shows such as The Voice, Big Brother, and Love Is Blind, said in a statement that she was “absolutely chuffed” to join the Radio 2 family. Willis expressed admiration for Ball, describing her as someone she “admires and adores.” Willis also said she will miss listening to Ball but looks forward to becoming “the filling to a Romesh and Rylan sandwich.” Previously, Willis hosted a show on Heart Radio from 2012 to 2018 and has been a cover presenter on Radio 2 since 2019
