In West Yorkshire, footage of dangerous driving submitted by the public has resulted in thousands of drivers being identified and penalized. Among the videos received were instances such as a van transporting a highly unstable and unsafe load, as well as risky overtaking maneuvers involving both cyclists and horse riders. These contributions have been shared through an online platform facilitated by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA).
Over the past year, authorities have reviewed a total of 11,096 video submissions. Out of these reported incidents, action has been taken against drivers in approximately 65% of the cases, which equates to around 7,300 individuals facing consequences. Each recording is carefully assessed by officers to determine whether any traffic violation occurred and if enforcement measures are warranted.
West Yorkshire Police highlighted that “Operation Snap” empowers the community by enabling people to take an active role in enhancing road safety and preventing accidents and fatalities. According to the WYCA, the number of videos submitted continues to grow steadily, showing a 12.3% rise in 2025 compared to the previous year.
Alison Lowe, the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime in West Yorkshire, expressed her gratitude toward the public’s involvement. She stated, “We are extremely grateful for the public support – you are making a real difference.” She emphasized the campaign’s goal to make the roads safer by saying, “We want to ensure that there is no place to hide for dangerous drivers and every dashcam brings that closer.
