Queen Camilla records special broadcast with John and Amy Hunt

The Queen has taken part in a special radio broadcast alongside BBC racing commentator John Hunt, whose wife and two daughters tragically lost their lives in a horrific incident last year. Louise Hunt, aged 25, her sister Hannah, 28, and their mother Carol Hunt, 61, were murdered at their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on 9 July 2023 by Louise’s former partner, Kyle Clifford.

Invited by Queen Camilla, John Hunt and his daughter Amy visited Clarence House to participate in this unique edition of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, which is scheduled for broadcast on New Year’s Eve. The broadcast was recorded on 27 November and was chaired by BBC presenter Emma Barnett. It also featured former prime minister Baroness Theresa May, who is serving as guest editor for the programme on 31 December. This broadcast’s release coincides with the conclusion of the UN’s 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

In March, Clifford, who is 27 years old, was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court to a whole life order after pleading guilty to the murders and being convicted of the rape of Louise Hunt. To honor the memory of Carol, Louise, and Hannah, a fundraising gala for the Hunt Family Fund will take place on Thursday evening. The fund was established as a tribute to the three family members.

Mr. Hunt and his daughter Amy have expressed a strong desire to keep the memory and spirit of their loved ones alive. John Hunt shared, “From the moment I wake up, I say good morning to each of them. Sometimes I say out loud to Hannah and Louise: ‘Girls, sorry I can’t be with you, I’m with your mum at the moment’. As I close my eyes at night, I chat to them as well.” Amy Hunt reflected on the tragedy as well, saying, “My mum, Hannah and Louise became a statistic. They became victims of Kyle Clifford. I want to breathe life back into my mum, Hannah and Louise as fully rounded people.
