Two charged over Heathrow Airport 'pepper spray' attack

A robbery involving a suitcase at London’s Heathrow Airport has led to charges against two men, following an assault thought to involve the use of pepper spray. Tyrone Richards, aged 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, aged 24, face two counts each of robbery and administering a noxious substance, according to HM Courts and Tribunal Service officials.

The incident took place on Sunday in the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3. Police reported that prior to the attack, two women were robbed of their suitcases after exiting a car park lift. Among those affected by the incident was a three-year-old girl, with a total of five people receiving hospital treatment before being discharged.

Richards, who has no fixed address, and Clarke-Butcher, from Mantlet Close in Streatham, are scheduled to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. In addition to these arrests, the Metropolitan Police also detained a 23-year-old woman on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. She has since been released on bail as inquiries continue. Another woman, aged 57, was arrested on the same suspicion but is now released under investigation. Furthermore, a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody.

The Metropolitan Police emphasized that the event was isolated and is not being treated as a terrorism-related incident. However, it caused some disruption, including delays to trains and the temporary closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park
