Man, 28, accused of raping two teenage girls in Bolton

A 28-year-old man named Sultani Bakatash has been charged in connection with the rape of two 14-year-old girls in Bolton over the recent weekend. He is scheduled to appear before Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court, facing allegations relating to multiple sexual offences involving the teenage victims.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported that Bakatash is an Afghan national and was apprehended early on Sunday after a rape was reported at a flat located in Middle Hulton. Although police guidelines allow the release of nationality details, GMP did not clarify why they chose to disclose this information in this situation. The defendant identified their ethnicity as “any other,” according to the force.

The charges against Bakatash include two counts of rape involving girls under the age of 16, one count of sexual assault, and one count of assault by penetration. It is also alleged that the accused had prior online contact with the victims before meeting them in person. GMP confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, with specialist teams providing support to both girls, and stressed that no one else is being sought in relation to this case.

Ch Supt Helen Critchley, the Bolton district commander, expressed concern over the incident, stating: “This is a deeply concerning report, and our priority is supporting the two young girls and their families at this traumatic time.” She added, “We have acted quickly since this was reported to us in the last 48 hours, and we’ve been using all available resources to understand what has happened and help this case progress through court.
