Lando Norris is eager to take a break from the intense spotlight after an incredible year in which he fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming the Formula 1 World Champion. Following his victory celebrations in Abu Dhabi, the McLaren driver spent some quiet time reflecting on his achievement at a hotel near the Yas Marina Circuit. In a relaxed and upbeat mood, Norris discussed his journey with BBC Sport, revealing that although he is proud of his success, he also looks forward to temporarily stepping away from the world of Formula 1.
In the coming days, Norris will return to the McLaren factory to evaluate the season and work on preparations for next year, including simulator sessions. There are further festivities planned, such as receiving the official championship trophy at a ceremony in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and attending McLaren’s Christmas party in London. Despite the excitement, Norris expressed a desire to simply “live a normal few days” and engage in everyday activities like playing golf, allowing himself a brief respite from the pressures of the sport.
Norris also opened up about the personal sacrifices involved in reaching the pinnacle of motorsport. Waiting for him at the Abu Dhabi hotel were his parents, Adam and Cisca Norris. Although the family’s wealth from Adam’s career as a pension trader allowed some advantages, Lando stressed the challenges of committing to elite competition from a young age.
