Man arrested after bulldozer driven into Cefn Rhigos pub

A man has been taken into custody following an incident where a bulldozer was used to crash into a village pub during its operating hours, resulting in the destruction of the front porch and damage to the exterior walls. The event occurred at the New Inn, located in the hamlet of Cefn Rhigos, Rhondda Cynon Taf. Authorities were alerted shortly after 20:45 GMT on Thursday when reports emerged that a JCB vehicle had driven over an unoccupied parked car before colliding with the pub.

The individual arrested is a 35-year-old local from Rhigos. He faces multiple charges including attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), dangerous driving, criminal damage, and driving under the influence. Police indicated that the suspect is currently receiving treatment in hospital. Fortunately, no other people were harmed in the incident, and officials have confirmed that they are actively investigating how and why the event unfolded.

Representatives from South Wales Police have suggested that the attack may have been deliberate, stating that it “may have been targeted, rather than random.” They also clarified that the investigation does not involve anyone else at present. Witnesses in the area reported seeing a JCB vehicle leaving the vicinity of the pub shortly before 21:00 on the evening the incident occurred.

The police have expressed their gratitude to members of the public for their assistance during the incident, which was quickly contained. Officers assured the community that there is no continuing threat to the public. Meanwhile, a section of Rhigos Road remains closed, with a police cordon still in place to secure the area as the inquiry continues
