Christmas comes to County Road

The festive season has brought a vibrant atmosphere to County Road with the launch of an exciting Christmas event programme designed for people of all ages. Activities range from creative workshops such as card making and arts sessions to lively performances and community markets, ensuring there is plenty to enjoy throughout the holiday period.

A highlight of the season is the Snowflake Trail, which runs until 13 December and guides participants to Spellow Library. Along the way, visitors can admire sparkling light displays featured in the windows of various shops and businesses on County Road. Those taking part in the trail have the opportunity to win prizes by spotting and counting the decorative snowflakes.

Adding to the festive spirit, a remarkable Nativity scene over a century old, kindly loaned by E. Carrara & Sons, will be on display in the window of Spellow Library throughout Christmas. Meanwhile, on Sunday 7 December, Goodison Park’s Park End will be transformed into an outdoor Community Market. This event offers a variety of community stalls alongside festive activities suitable for families, supported by a number of local market traders.

The programme includes several specific events at Spellow Library: on Saturday 6 December, visitors can attend a Make and Take art workshop with Gill Smith, watch the Wondershelf performance by Tmesis Theatre, and join a Christmas card writing workshop hosted by Pauline Rowe and Emma Case. On Saturday 13 December, multiple workshops will take place, including Creative Spaces Storybox, Festive Spin Arts Workshop, another card writing session, and storytelling with Dora Colquhoun. To join the Snowflake Trail competition, participants need to collect entry forms from designated drop-off points, identify fourteen snowflakes along County Road between Breeze Hill and Carisbrooke Road, and count the snowflakes at Spellow Library, then submit their forms by 13 December 2025 for a chance to win some books
