Teen dies after getting out of ambulance on M5

An 18-year-old man tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on the M5 motorway in North Somerset. According to Avon and Somerset Police, the young man had exited an ambulance shortly before the collision occurred. The incident took place just after 11 p.m. on Sunday, with the crash occurring on the northbound carriageway between Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon. An officer who was on duty at the time came across the situation and attempted to move the patient to safety. Unfortunately, the teenager was struck while on the southbound side of the motorway.

Assistant Chief Constable Joanne Hall expressed sympathy for the victim’s family, stating, “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at such a devastating time. We will support them in any way we can.” She also acknowledged the emotional impact the event has had on emergency responders. “This incident has had a significant effect on our officers and ambulance crews who are understandably incredibly upset by what happened,” Hall added. The police are ensuring that welfare support is provided to both their staff and members of the public who were affected or witnessed the collision.

Meanwhile, Jane Whichello, representing South Western Ambulance Service, offered condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
