Manchester police given longer to question synagogue attack suspect

Authorities have extended the period for questioning a 31-year-old man detained in relation to the synagogue attack that took place in Manchester earlier this year. This individual was apprehended at Manchester Airport upon arrival on a flight and is suspected of involvement in the commission, preparation, and instigation of terrorist acts.

According to Greater Manchester Police, a warrant allowing for further detention has been authorized. As a result, the suspect may remain in custody for up to seven days following his arrest, or until the 4th of December. The investigation follows the tragic incident on October 2nd at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, where two people, Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, lost their lives. The attacker, identified as Jihad Al-Shamie, was fatally shot by police during the event.

In addition to the fatalities, three other men sustained serious injuries and received hospital treatment. The current arrest raises the number of individuals taken into custody in connection with the attack to seven. Among these, five have since been released without any charges.

One remaining individual, a 30-year-old man arrested on October 9th on suspicion of failing to disclose information under the Terrorism Act, is still on bail as inquiries continue. The police remain focused on thoroughly investigating all aspects of this case
