Sheffield shooting: Boy, 15, arrested as teen critical in hospital

A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder following a shooting in Sheffield that left a 16-year-old critically injured. South Yorkshire Police revealed that the victim was found hurt on London Road at around 17:15 GMT on Monday and was immediately rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical state.

In an official statement, the police confirmed that the teenager suspected to be involved is currently held in custody. Superintendent Martin Simcock expressed his condemnation of the violence, stating, “Gun crime, and violent crime has no place in South Yorkshire, and the fact that a young boy is fighting for his life is appalling and will not be tolerated.” He emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the police’s commitment to addressing it.

Supt Simcock also appealed directly to the public for assistance, noting that investigators, officers, and forensic teams have been working in the area to gather evidence. “I urge you to get in touch, no matter how small you believe your information to be, it could be the missing piece that we need,” he said. He stressed the importance of community cooperation, adding, “This boy and his family deserve answers, and we are committed to getting them.”

The incident prompted the closure of London Road between Sitwell Place and the Crowther Place turn-off, though the road reopened by Tuesday afternoon. Police had established a significant cordon earlier during evidence collection and have announced plans to increase patrols in the vicinity over the following days. Speaking to the BBC, Dari Saleh, owner of Marmaris Turkish restaurant near the scene, shared his concern: “We work here all day and evening and then something like this happens, we’re scared, our customers, our business, you don’t feel safe.” Abtisam Mohamed, Labour MP for Sheffield Central, also expressed her shock, saying, “My thoughts are with him, his family and all those affected as they face what must be an unimaginably difficult time.” She urged anyone with information to come forward to help clarify the case
