Rapper Ghetts faces further dangerous driving charges

Rapper Ghetts, whose birth name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, is now facing additional charges related to dangerous driving on the day he is accused of causing a fatal hit-and-run accident. The incident occurred on October 18 on Redbridge Lane in Ilford, where his BMW allegedly struck 20-year-old Yubin Tamang. Initially, Clarke-Samuel was charged with causing Tamang’s death by dangerous driving, but authorities have since added two more counts of dangerous driving connected to events before and after the collision.

It is claimed that Clarke-Samuel was driving recklessly in parts of Camden, including Tavistock Place, prior to the crash. Following the collision at roughly 11:30 p.m., he is alleged to have continued his hazardous driving along Worcester Crescent in Redbridge while returning to his home in Woodford, east London. Police visited Clarke-Samuel’s residence early the next day. The black BMW, which is reportedly registered and insured under his name, was found to be significantly damaged.

During a court appearance on Monday at the Old Bailey, Clarke-Samuel joined via videolink from Pentonville prison, wearing a plain grey short-sleeved t-shirt. He confirmed his identity as members of the victim’s family, who traveled from Nepal, observed the proceedings. Judge Nigel Lickley KC ordered that Clarke-Samuel remain in custody and scheduled a plea hearing for December 8.

Known professionally as Ghetts, Clarke-Samuel is a grime artist recognized for his highly acclaimed work as a rapper and songwriter. He has collaborated with prominent musicians like Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, and Skepta. Ghetts was nominated for the Mercury Prize and earned the Best Male Act at the 2021 Mobo Awards.
