Glenavy: Man and woman dead after crash

A fatal collision occurred on Saturday evening in County Antrim, resulting in the deaths of a man and a woman, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). The incident took place around 6:25 pm GMT on the Lurgan Road near Glenavy and involved two vehicles: a grey Skoda and a grey Cupra. Unfortunately, the occupants of the Cupra—a man and a woman—were declared dead at the scene.

Following the crash, emergency responders transported the driver of the Skoda to the hospital for medical attention. The Lurgan Road was closed for several hours after the accident, with traffic redirected via a diversion at Pigeonstown Road to ease congestion and allow for investigation work.

Additionally, on the same evening, emergency services attended another traffic collision involving two vehicles near Lisburn. This separate incident occurred on Saintfield Road close to the Old Ballynahinch Road junction. Five individuals—a man, two women, and two children—were taken to hospital following the crash. Among them, two women and one child sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment.

These unfortunate events reflect a difficult day on the roads in County Antrim and surrounding areas, with ongoing investigations into both crashes by local authorities. The PSNI continues to urge motorists to drive cautiously and follow traffic regulations to help prevent such tragedies
