Strictly Come Dancing: Star arrested on suspicion of rape

A well-known participant from Strictly Come Dancing has been taken into custody on suspicion of rape. Hertfordshire Police confirmed that the man was arrested last month and has since been released on bail while investigations continue. A spokesperson for the BBC told BBC News, “It would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing police investigation.”

Reports from The Sun indicate that the alleged victim is a woman who is neither a contestant nor a professional dancer on the show but had encountered the individual due to his involvement in the competition. Hertfordshire Police provided a statement confirming the arrest took place on October 13 in London, with the offense said to have occurred in Hertfordshire. The statement added that inquiries by the Public Protection team are ongoing but refrained from further comment due to the sensitive nature of the case.

This recent development follows another arrest earlier this year involving a different man linked to the same BBC dance programme. In August, the Metropolitan Police apprehended a man on suspicion of rape and non-consensual intimate image abuse, although his role within the show has not been publicly disclosed. Since its debut in 2004, Strictly Come Dancing, primarily filmed at Elstree Studios, has faced several controversies related to the conduct of some of its professionals and celebrity participants.

In addition to the sexual assault allegations, the BBC initiated an inquiry earlier this year into claims of drug use by two unspecified stars of the programme.
