Teacher struck off for OnlyFans page fined £25,000 for unpaid tax bill

Kirsty Buchan, a former physics teacher from Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, was struck off after students discovered her explicit OnlyFans profile. Following this revelation, she has now been fined more than £25,000 for failing to pay a substantial tax bill. According to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), Buchan did not pay £38,902.37 in tax for the period between 6 April 2022 and 5 April 2023.

Buchan operated an adult content page under the pseudonym “Jessica Jackrabbit” and described herself as a “good teacher gone bad.” She resigned from her position at Bannerman High School in Glasgow in 2022 when it became apparent that pupils had accessed her paid content. The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) officially removed her from the teaching register in June.

During a GTCS hearing, it was revealed that Buchan had admitted in several interviews with the Daily Record that she was making up to £50,000 per month from her OnlyFans account. HMRC classified her as a “deliberate tax defaulter,” issuing her a penalty of £25,189.28 following their investigation. Despite this, Buchan has stated that she is disputing the exact amount owed but intends to pay all outstanding tax once the dispute concludes. She told BBC Scotland News, “I am not avoiding paying the tax bill but I am in the process of disputing the penalty charges and the final amount owed. Once that is all sorted I will be clearing any tax owed.”

In previous statements to BBC News, Buchan claimed that her photos had been illegally downloaded and distributed among the pupils. She expressed reluctance to leave teaching but said financial pressures compelled her to seek additional income, including working at Tesco and as a Christmas elf. Among 160 individuals and businesses listed by HMRC for unpaid taxes over £25,000, Buchan’s details will remain public for up to 12 months. Kevin Hubbard, HMRC’s director of individual and small business compliance, emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, stating, “By publishing the names of deliberate defaulters and their penalties, we send a clear message that non-compliance has consequences.
