Man accused of Huntingdon train stabbings faces more charges

A 32-year-old man, Anthony Williams, has been charged with additional offences connected to events that occurred the day before a stabbing spree on a train. Williams, who has no fixed address, was already facing 10 counts of attempted murder following a mass stabbing on a service traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on the evening of November 1st. The train was forced to make an unscheduled stop at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire, where emergency services and police responded quickly.

British Transport Police (BTP) announced that Williams now faces seven further charges related to alleged incidents on October 31st. These include offences in Peterborough, Stevenage, and on a train journey between Hitchin and Biggleswade. The additional allegations consist of serious crimes such as attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, affray, and possession of a bladed article, along with theft of knives from a supermarket.

The charges detailed against Williams are numerous: attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man in separate locations in Peterborough; attempted grievous bodily harm of a 28-year-old man; affray and possession of a bladed weapon connected to an incident at a barbershop in Peterborough; theft of knives from an Asda store in Stevenage; and common assault of a man on a train between Hitchin and Biggleswade. Williams is scheduled to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court to face these new charges.

Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy of BTP commented on the ongoing investigation, stating, “Our investigation into the awful incident at Huntingdon has also focused on other offences previously reported to police or identified by our investigation. We have worked closely with our colleagues in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police, alongside the Crown Prosecution Service, to bring these charges.” Witnesses on the train described a person wielding a knife who began attacking passengers shortly after the train passed through Peterborough. Williams is expected to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on December 1st concerning the train stabbings and an additional attempted murder charge linked to an alleged assault in London
