Sarah Ferguson’s latest children’s book, originally scheduled for release in early October, has now been withdrawn from sale, according to data from NielsenIQ Book Data. The book, titled *Flora And Fern: Kindness Along The Way*, was first announced for publication on 9 October, as indicated by a press release published by Bookseller. While it later appeared on Amazon with a revised availability date of 20 November, the title has since been removed entirely from the retailer’s listings.
NielsenIQ confirmed that the book’s withdrawal came at the publisher’s request, although representatives for Ms Ferguson have declined to comment on the matter. Her publisher, New Frontier Publishing, has also not responded to repeated inquiries seeking clarification about the status of the book. Last month, Waterstones bookstores told the BBC that the publication date had been postponed indefinitely, and the retailer has received no further updates from the publisher since that time.
The reasons behind the book’s removal remain undisclosed. However, an industry expert suggested the decision might be related to ongoing controversies surrounding Ms Ferguson and her former husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Neill Denny from Book Brunch noted, “You have to imagine it’s to do with the current controversies” and added, “It’s not the right time to release a book by Sarah Ferguson.” He further speculated that the publisher might delay the release for several months or even up to a year in hopes of a more favorable environment, citing that the nature of the book means it would not quickly become outdated or lose its relevance.
Meanwhile, other publishers associated with Ms Ferguson have remained relatively silent regarding their future involvement with her work. HarperCollins, which published her last two books, including *A Most Intriguing Lady* in 2023, refrained from commenting on any potential distancing but pointed out that both titles remain in circulation. On the personal front, Ms Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor are preparing to leave the Royal Lodge estate at Windsor. Andrew is set to relocate to the King’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, but Ms Ferguson’s new residence has not been publicly confirmed. Reports from the Daily Mail suggest she may move to Portugal to live with her daughter, Princess Eugenie, though this has not been officially verified.
In addition to these developments, Ms Ferguson has been embroiled in controversy due to her past connection with Jeffrey Epstein. Last September, several charities ended their patronage or ambassadorship arrangements with her following the emergence of a 2011 email, in which she referred to Epstein as her “supreme friend” and appeared to express regret over criticizing him publicly. Beyond these incidents, Ms Ferguson is involved in various business ventures and is known for authoring children’s books, works on Queen Victoria, and her own memoirs
