An 18-year-old man from Newbridge, Caerphilly county, has been formally charged in connection with a serious incident involving two women. Cameron Cheng faces charges of murder relating to a 17-year-old girl and attempted murder concerning another woman. Additionally, he has been charged with possession of a bladed article. He is scheduled to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning at a residence on Wheatley Place in Cefn Fforest, Caerphilly county. Emergency services responded at approximately 07:15 GMT following reports that two individuals had sustained serious injuries. Tragically, Lainie Williams, aged 17 and a resident of Cefn Fforest, died at the scene.
A second victim, a 38-year-old woman who was also injured during the event, has since been released from hospital after receiving medical treatment. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this case.
Assistant Chief Constable Vicki Townsend of Gwent Police commented on the situation, stating, “Though we’ve reached this significant development in the investigation, our inquiries continue.” The police are urging anyone who may have information or witnessed the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing inquiry
