A murder trial is underway after the death of Ian Watkins, the former lead singer of Lostprophets, in HMP Wakefield. Watkins, who was serving a life sentence for child sex offenses, was reportedly stabbed in the neck on October 11th. Samuel Dodsworth, 43, has pleaded not guilty to the murder in Leeds Crown Court, while a second defendant, Rico Gedel, 25, did not enter a plea as he refused to appear in court via video-link.
Authorities revealed that Gedel, previously known as Rashid Gedel, declined to leave his cell for the video appearance, insisting on an in-person hearing. Dodsworth, on the other hand, appeared via video-link from HMP Wakefield and denied possession of a makeshift knife on the day of Watkins’ death. The trial for Dodsworth is set for May 5th next year, with a case management hearing scheduled for February 2nd.
