Liverpool launches countdown to UEFA EURO 2028

Liverpool proudly participated in the official launch of UEFA EURO 2028, joining cities across the UK and Ireland to mark the beginning of the countdown to the largest UEFA European Championship ever held. The city was represented by Leader of Liverpool City Council, Councillor Liam Robinson, and Councillor Mike Wharton, as Deputy Mayor of the Combined Authority, at the event in London.

Colin Chong, Everton FC’s Chief Real Estate and Regeneration Officer, also attended the launch, where it was announced that Liverpool would host five matches at the Everton Stadium on the city’s waterfront in June 2028. These matches include four group stage matches and one round of 16 fixture, scheduled on different dates in June as follows: Sunday, 11 June; Wednesday, 14 June; Saturday, 17 June; Tuesday, 20 June; and Saturday, 24 June. Kick-off times will be revealed after the team draw in December 2027.

To mark the countdown, the official tournament logo for the event was displayed on prominent landmarks like the Cunard Building and the Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool. The city’s logo features the iconic Royal Liverpool Building, known for its distinctive 5.5m Liver Birds perched atop its towers, symbolizing the city’s history and maritime heritage. Everton Stadium’s UEFA EURO 2028 logo was also prominently displayed, igniting excitement for the upcoming tournament and the economic boost it is expected to bring to the region.

The event will see a record 24 nations competing between 9 June and 9 July, promising fans an unforgettable festival of football with over three million match tickets available for supporters across England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. The theme of ‘We Speak Football’ celebrates the universal language of the sport, highlighting the passion and inclusivity that bring fans together. Additionally, UEFA EURO 2028 UK & Ireland will feature the largest-ever community program for the tournament, focusing on social impact plans to inspire positive change and celebrate football inclusivity and community heroes
